GMR Group to run Hyderabad Airport for 30 more years, till March 2068 now – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The GMR Group can run now run Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) till 2068. The Centre has extended GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited’s (GHIAL) term of the concession agreement for a further 30 years — from March 23,2038 to March 22, 2068, GMR Group said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday.
India’s first greenfield airport built under public private partnership model, RGIA was commissioned in 31 months and inaugurated in March 2008.
Its initial capacity was 1.2 crore passengers per annum, which went up to 2.1 crore in 2019 (pre-covid). The airport is currently undergoing major expansion that will raise its capacity to 3.4 crore passengers per annum. The airport’s master plan envisages an ultimate capacity of over 10 crore passengers per annum.
GMR Group says it is the largest private airport operator in Asia and the second largest in the world with a passenger handling capacity of over 18.9 crore annually. It operates airports in Delhi Hyderabad and Cebu in Philippines. It recently bagged the development and operation rights of Kualanamu International Airport in Medan, Indonesia. The Group is currently developing three greenfield airport projects — Goa and Bhogapuram airports in India and Crete airport in Greece.
