Belgium’s Ester Manas and Germany’s GmbH are among the finalists for this year’s Andam Fashion Awards, which aim to “identify and support” emerging talents who are shaping the international fashion scene.
Other finalists for the Andam Grand Prize award include Andreādamo (Italy), Duran Lantink (Amsterdam), Gauchere (France) and LGN (France). The winner will receive a €300,000 prize, with €100,000 going to the runner-up.
Three designers nominated for the Pierre Bergé Prize, which recognises young French talent, are Avellano, Ouest Paris and Vaillant; the winner will also receive €100,000. Demi-fine jewellery brands Alighieri and Panconesi, as well as Ukrainian hat designer Ruslan Baginskiy, have been nominated for the €50,000 Accessories Prize.
All 12 designers will present their projects to the judging panel, where a winner will be selected on 29 June. This year’s judges include Saint Laurent CEO Francesca Bellettini; Chloé CEO Riccardo Bellini; Balenciaga CEO Cédric Charbit; OTB founder and president Renzo Rosso; Mytheresa CEO Michael Kliger; Instagram VP of fashion partnerships Eva Chen; Longchamp creative director Sophie Delafontaine; and Alexandre de Betak, founder and chief creative officer Bureau Betak, among others.
The prestigious Andam Prize, now in its 34th edition, was launched by director Nathalie Dufour in a bid to offer financial and logistic support to fashion designers in Europe. In 2005, the award expanded to include talent from other regions. The prize has been awarded to some of the industry’s leading names including last year’s winner Botter, Marine Serre and Viktor & Rolf.
This year’s 12 finalists will gain access to Balenciaga’s stocks of fabrics and raw materials, an initiative that launched in 2020, as well as access to Longchamp’s leather and fabric deadstock. The finalists based in France will have access to IFM Accelerator Programme and financial advice from the French lending institution, IFCIC.
“I founded Andam to identify and support the emerging talents of the global contemporary fashion scene,” says Dufour. “This year again, the strong coordination of our private and institutional sponsors allows Andam to develop a global action, offering to these young brands financial support and a global mentorship programme covering all the strategic fields essentials for the structuring and development of their company.”
