GM Chris Grier: Dolphins expect to keep WR DeVante Parker

The Miami Dolphins have been quite busy this offseason. They signed wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. before completing a blockbuster trade with the Kansas City Chiefs for star wideout Tyreek Hill. Some, thus, have assumed that DeVante Parker is surplus to requirements in Miami, and the 29-year-old has been linked in rumors with the Philadelphia Eagles, among other could-be buyers.

According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, though, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier told reporters Monday at the league’s annual meetings that he’s open to taking calls about Parker but “expects” the 2015 first-round draft pick to remain with the club through at least the start of the season.

Parker recorded 40 catches for 515 yards and two touchdowns across 10 games this past campaign but has since become an expendable asset. Hill, Wilson and 2021 first-round selection Jaylen Waddle are all on track to catch passes from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa during the season, and Parker’s salary-cap hit of $8.74 million could be excessive for the Dolphins but not too burdensome for a different team in need of a solid player at the position.

Of course, it’s possible Grier was merely attempting to drive the asking price up regarding Parker with his latest comments before next month’s NFL Draft. Whether or not a club will meet that price remains to be seen.
