JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s music fraternity, close friends, and family of the late jazz musician Gloria Bosman will pay their final respects to the distinguished singer at a memorial service in Soweto on Friday afternoon.
Still coming to terms with the deaths of musicians Costa Titch and hip-hop star Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA, the country was dealt another blow with the death of the jazz maestro and composer.
Bosman passed away at her home in Pimville on Tuesday.
The 50-year-old’s unique contribution added to South Africa’s tapestry of jazz music, making her a household name.

Bosman’s life and legacy will be celebrated at the iconic Soweto theatre in Jabulani – the same theatre where Bosman entertained hundreds of fans both through her music and theatre productions.
Since the news of her passing broke, tributes have been pouring in from industry colleagues and jazz lovers locally and across the African continent.
Although the jazz composer enjoyed recording music in the studio, the true magic of her music was reflected through onstage performances where she could connect with the audience.
Bosman shared the stage throughout her illustrious career with the likes of the late Hugh Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo, and Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse.
She will be laid to rest on Sunday.
