Gerard Butler and Ali Fazal-starrer Kandahar lands on OTT; the action film does not disappoint, say netizens – Times of India
Twitter user Pluto_karim put up a tweet just hours ago that had a poster of Gerard Butlerin the film.Karim declared that it is the best action movie of the month. The film is cast in the action-mystery and thriller genre and revolves around an undercoverCIA operative who gets stuck in hostile territory in Afghanistan after his mission is exposed. Accompanied by his translator, he has to fight to fight his way out of the country.
On Butler’s Instagram page, fans were ecstatic and Russian lenochka skazka wrote that she was “completely delighted” with the film. It “tells about what is happening in the world,” she commented and added that “we Russians really liked your new film.”
The film is full of political overtones and Khalifa Shelby too tweeted how “it portrays (what) afghanistan is and what the country is to the west, pakistan military & world’s clandestine business. Its all business & people die. No permanent friend or enemy, just the fortune at the right time, place & the unfortunate on the other side.”
However, while the audience reviews are fairly decent, critics were not too impressed with the common consensus on rottentomatoes being that although the actor remains a sturdy screen presence, the film itself is not really worth much.
However, Thelma Adams of AARP Movies for Grownups found it “an explosive adventure that hurtles from beginning to end.” In the same vein, Nick Schager of The Daily Beast also thought that what Butler “delivers is precisely what fans are likely looking for, albeit in a package that’s more politically muddled than is necessary.”
Critics on Rotten Tomatoes have awarded it a lacklustre 47 per cent on the tomatometer, but audience reviews stand at 82 per cent. So, if you are looking for some plain action and are a diehard Gerard Butler fan, the film won’t disappoint.
