Georgia transfer addition arrested on felony charges Monday morning

Georgia transfer wide receiver RaRa Thomas was arrested on Monday morning in Athens.

RaRa Thomas has only been on campus for a few weeks, but Georgia’s transfer wide receiver has already been arrested.

Thomas was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning by Athens-Clarke County Police on a felony charge of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor charge of battery-family violence. The Eufala, Alabama native had played for the late Mike Leach at Mississippi State before transferring over to Georgia. The Dawgs are reigning national champions, but have had a rough last week or so.

Thomas and former Missouri Tigers wideout Dominic Lovett were the two biggest names the Dawgs picked up in the transfer portal this offseason.

While it remains to be seen if Thomas will have a role on next year’s team, the Dawgs receiving corps already took a big hit after last season. Adonai Mitchell transferred to Texas, Kearis Jackson declared for the 2023 NFL Draft and Dominick Blaylock hit the transfer portal. Even former five-star tight end Arik Gilbert left the program, as he has transferred a second time over to Nebraska.

Factor in iconic quarterback Stetson Bennett IV having exhausted all of his eligibility and offensive coordinator Todd Monken potentially in the mix to head back to the NFL, and Georgia has had better days on the offensive side of the ball. Though Carson Beck, Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton will all battle for the starting quarterback role, Georgia might have issues at receiver.

Ultimately, you hate to see this happen to any player on any program, much less one who transferred in-conference from a good team to a great one. Thomas was expected to be a huge part of the Georgia receiving corps, but his arrest on Monday morning puts that into serious question. The Dawgs will carry on, but this transfer addition seems to have blown up in their face.
