Gary Neville lauds Marcus Rashford after he opened the scoring against Arsenal
‘This is absolutely lethal’: Gary Neville hails Marcus Rashford’s ‘brilliant’ opener against Arsenal… before praising his ‘monumental’ turnaround in form for Manchester United
Gary Neville has heaped praise on Marcus Rashford’s ‘lethal’ strike that gave Manchester United the lead in their crunch tie with Arsenal.
Rashford nicked the ball from Thomas Partey in the attacking half, drove forward and fired a shot past Aaron Ramsdale at the near post to put Arsenal 1-0 down for just the fourth time this season.
The Gunners fought back quickly to level the game through a well-placed Eddie Nketiah header but the home side have been rocked by United, who are the only side to beat them in the league this season.

Neville was impressed by the game’s opening goal, as he told Sky Sports: ‘This is absolutely lethal. Sloppy from Partey, but then this from Rashford is absolutely brilliant.
‘We saw him warming up before [the game] doing this type of strike, cutting in from the left-hand side. It’s past Ramsdale so quickly.
‘The trajectory of the journey in the past 12 months has been monumental from where he was to where he is today.’
The 25-year-old has now scored 17 goals across all competitions this season and become a key attacking cog in Erik ten Hag’s side.

Neville felt the manager had set up his side to get the best out of Rashford, as he explained: ‘I think it is one of the big reasons he has kept [Wout] Weghorst in the team to allow Antony and Rashford to stay in their best positions, he wants him off the left and that’s why.
‘As I say we watched him in the warm-up and he was cutting in five, six, seven times off that left hand side onto the right foot and smashing it into the Manchester United warm-up goalkeeper.’
As the game stands, Arsenal’s lead over Manchester City will move to three points and United will overtake Newcastle into third place.
If Mikel Arteta’s men can secure a win, they will move five points clear at the top of the league with a game in hand over City.
