Gareth Bale’s agent shuts down Wrexham rumours and claims the Welshman WON’T come out of retirement

Gareth Bale’s agent has shut down rumours that his client might make a shock return from retirement and sign for Wrexham. 

Talk has been rife in recent weeks over the potentially sensational transfer that would see the five-time Champions League winner join the Welsh minnows in League Two. 

Wrexham fans had been hopeful that the move may materialise after Bale exchanged pleasantries with club co-owner Rob McElhenney on social media last month. 

The two discussed playing a potential round of golf together, before the American suggested that he would try and persuade Bale to sign.

However, to the disappointment of many Wrexham fans, it looks as though the transfer won’t be happening after the rumours were described as ‘tongue in cheek’.

However, his agent Jonathan Barnett shut down talks of a sensational move to League Two

Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, was asked by Sky Sports whether the rumours had been serious, to which he replied: ‘I don’t think so. He’s flattered by the offers but they’ve all been tongue-in-cheek. 

‘He’s having a great life at the moment and it’s well deserved. He’s been the best British footballer, probably ever.’

When pressed about the exchange between Bale and Wrexham’s owners, Barnett said: ‘They haven’t actually spoken to me, they may have spoken to Gareth. But Gareth doesn’t want to play football anymore. 

‘He’s had a great career, he enjoyed himself but he’s living a great life now. He’s with his family, which is the most important thing. 

‘He’s spending a lot of time with his children and that’s what he wants to do. He’ll do obviously do other things later down the line.’

Bale announced his retirement from football at the start of the calendar year, despite having only signed for LAFC a few months prior. 

Barnett suggested that Bale’s announcement was not a shock, as he said: ‘We’d been discussing it for a long time. And I think, for him, it was the right time. He’s achieved everything he wanted to achieve. 

‘Played for Wales at the highest level, the World Cup, which is what he really wanted to do. And I think he knew his body wasn’t up to it anymore. He’s had a hard time with his body in the last few years.’

The comment from Barnett will come as a crushing blow to many Wrexham fans, who’d been hopeful that the Welshman would sign for the club. 

Wrexham secured promotion to League Two last month after a thrilling 3-1 win over Boreham Wood saw them get crowned National League champions.

To celebrate, the players have been flown to Las Vegas for the party of a lifetime, thanks to co-owner McElhenney. 

Despite missing out on Bale, the Red Dragons are keen on doing summer business and are interested in signing red-hot Cheltenham Town forward Alfie May.
