The auspicious festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is knocking at our doors. Irrespective of what part of the country it is celebrated, food plays an important role during the fastivity. Lord Ganesha, who is worshipped during the 10-day-long festival, loved feasting on sweets, as per Hindu beliefs. Hence Ganesh Chaturthi is incomplete without an array of desserts. But what if someone is diabetic or is bound to a sugar-free diet? Does that mean they should be deprived of a good chunk of the festivity’s fun? Not at all. 1. Modak
Modaks are popularly known as Lord Ganesha’s favourite sweet. Make healthy and sugar-free modaks by using dates, nuts, raisins, coconut, poppy seeds and ghee. Store them in airtight jars for later use.
2. Two-In-One Phirni
This unique phirni has a layer of pista and another layer infused with rose essence. Use soaked rice, skimmed milk and artificial sweetener for the base. For the first layer, add ground and blanched pistachio. Then, add drops of rose essence.
3. Grilled Almond Barfi
This sugar-free barfi can be a showstopper at the dining table. The recipe uses two basic ingredients: grated khoya and roasted and crushed almonds. Artificial sweetener is optional for the dish.
4. Rice Pudding
Sugar-free rice pudding anyone? In order to amp up its health factor, add coconut milk to this recipe. This dessert is a riot of flavours with ingredients like lime leaves, cinnamon sticks, lemongrass and cardamom pods.
