Galaxy Watch: Here’s why Samsung’s new smartwatches don’t work with iPhones – Times of India

Since the first generation of Apple Watch, Android users have never been able to use it. Apple’s closed ecosystem ensures that the Watch pairs only with an iPhone. Last year, Samsung dropped support for iPhones with the Galaxy Watch 5 range and continues to do so with the newly-launched Galaxy Watch 6. In an interview with TechRadar, Junho Park, director of global product planning, Samsung, has explained why the company took that decision.

Park said that there were certain “heavy limitations that users experienced when using a Galaxy Watch with iOS.” As per Park, the limitation wasn’t driven by the Watch but “by the core product” — which is the iPhone. He also said that the idea is to provide the best experience to our customers and with the iPhone it wasn’t possible.
The senior Samsung executive said that the company felt there was a lot of disconnection between the two systems. “That was one of the reasons we dropped iOS support on Galaxy Watches – we could not deliver the same level of experience with Android and iOS.”

Samsung’s Galaxy smartwatches have been running on Wear OS for the past two years. However, other brands that have Wear OS-powered smartwatches are compatible with iOS.
