‘If I keep the mistakes then it is POINTLESS’: Furious Charles Leclerc insists he’s only got himself to blame after crashing out again while leading at the French Grand Prix… with the Ferrari star giving up more ground to Max Verstappen
Charles Leclerc admits he cannot keep making the mistakes that saw him crash out of the French Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon.
The Ferrari driver was leading the race when crashed into the wall at Turn 11 – the highest speed corner on the Paul Ricard circuit.
The 24-year-old quickly emerged from the car as his rivals headed into the pit lane to make a stop, with rival Max Verstappen was heard asking ‘is he ok’ over his radio.

It is the third time this season that Leclerc has crashed out while leading a race, and a the he was clearly furious with himself following the events in the south of France.
‘I am performing at the highest level of my career but if I keep the mistakes then it is pointless,’ he said following the incident.
‘If we lose the championship by 32 points I will know where they are coming from but it is unacceptable.
‘I go through the same process all the time and try to analyse. It is a mistake and that is it. It is trying to push too much and I lost the rear. It has been a very difficult weekend for me, I struggled with the balance of the car.
‘I did a mistake at the wrong moment.’

The crash gave Max Verstappen a potentially vital lead in the Drivers’ Championship
With Leclerc’s exit from the race, it cleared the way for Max Verstappen to win his 27th grand prix race and extend his lead at the top of the championship.
The Dutchman finished in first place ahead of Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes team-mate George Russell in third.
The win for Verstappen means Leclerc now finds himself 64 points behind his rival in the F1 Championship race.
While Red Bull extend their lead at the top of the contractors championship to 82 points following events in France.
