Newly-promoted Fulham have made their move to sign Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet.
The Craven Cottage club missed out on a deal for Italy international Federico Bernadeschi last week when he opted to join Toronto instead and have now gone back for Cornet who was on their radar at the start of the window.
Burnley rejected a loan offer from Everton over the weekend with the Championship side wanting the 25-year-old’s £17.5million buy out clause.
Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet is being chased by a number of Premier League clubs this summer
Fulham boss Marco Silva wants to add reinforcements before the start of the season
Everton are still in the frame while the player turned down the idea of a move to Nottingham Forest.
The Toffees’ director of football Kevin Thelwell had skipped the club’s US tour to accelerate transfer activity and Cornet was not in the squad for Burnley’s friendly against Shrewsbury on Thursday.
But Burnley rejected Everton’s opening offer which has allowed Marco Silva’s newly promoted side to submit an offer for the former Lyon wide-man.
Frank Lampard is a big admirer of the Ivory Coast international, and wants more bodies in to try and avoid a repeat of last season’s relegation battle.
Cornet scored nine goals in 28 games for Burnley since joining from Lyon last summer
Fulham made an offer to Bernadeschi last week but it’s understood to have fallen down over proposed drops in salary should Fulham be relegated.
Cornet can also play as a wing-back and that is a role both Marco Silva and Everton boss Frank Lampard will look to utilise if they sign the Ivory Coast international.
The 25-year-old scored nine goals in 28 games for Burnley since joining from Lyon last summer for just shy of £13million and is said to be happy to leave Turf Moor after Burnley’s relegation.
