Jazmin Sawyers hopes to hit the high notes on the Olympic stage next summer after the long jumper-turned-singer became British indoor champion on Sunday.

The 28-year-old is best known for appearing on ITV’s The Voice in 2017, when she got through her blind audition. But Sawyers still wants to be a big voice in athletics and believes she is capable of winning a medal at Paris 2024, following eighth-place finishes in the long jump final at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

‘I see myself on an Olympic podium,’ she said after triumphing at the UK Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham on Sunday with a best jump of 6.73metres. ‘A lot of people look at me and think, “She is someone who might scrape a medal at European level but is never going to be there at world level”.

‘But I am edging closer and closer towards the kind of distances that will get a medal at world level. Being this consistent indoors is a really good sign for me heading to outdoors.’

In the more immediate future, Sawyers is targeting a podium place at next month’s European Indoor Championships in Istanbul to go with the bronze she won at the European outdoors last summer.
