Tonight’s Off-White show took its star-studded crowd on a journey to “Spaceship Earth.” In a collection that looked forward and upward toward the cosmos, the legacy of late designer Virgil Abloh continued with both ready to wear—elevating streetwear basics like hoodies, cargo sets, and puffer coats—and a new, more couture-leaning fashion line galvanized by an army of voluminous tulle and sequined gowns.
Reverberations of Abloh’s signatures could be felt through the makeup led by Cécile Paravina, first in a nod to his penchant for words with face tattoos that read, quite literally, “FACE” or “BABE” worn by a handful of models including Kendall Jenner, Kaia Gerber, and Mayowa Nicholas. Then there were the vivid, neon-bright trompe l’oeil lip rings, along with color-blocked eyes. Adut Akech’s eyes were winged in purple and Karen Elson’s shaded in lime green to harmonize with their respective looks. Furthering the story were glossy monochrome and two-toned French manicures, which riffed on the color palette and graphic lines of the collection.
Each of these elements demonstrated Off-White’s perennial beauty attitude: Exuberant, feel-good touches that are idiosyncratically executed. It will be fun, but always make you think.
