BOXXER and Frazer Clarke have withdrawn from today’s purse bids for the British heavyweight title fight against Fabio Wardley.
The British Boxing Board of Control informed Wardley’s promoter Eddie Hearn of the news. The 43-year-old then announced the development on Twitter.
“Heard from the BBBofC that Boxxer has pulled @BigFrazeBoxer out of the @Fabio_Wardley purse bid today.
“What a complete joke and a waste of our time. Robbing the fighters of opportunity and the fans of a brilliant fight. Shambles.”
Much attention had been focused on today’s outcome after weeks of back and forth in interviews and social media between both camps.
Wardley would have been making the first defence of his Lonsdale belt which he won emphatically against Nathan Gorman last November. The 28-year-old made it 16 fights undefeated by stopping Michael Polite Coffie in four rounds during their 10-round international contest last month.
Clarke joined the Boxxer ranks in December 2021 but has only fought six times since then. The 31-year-old underwent hand surgery in March 2022 one month after making his professional debut against Jake Darnell. The 2020 Olympian returned in the July beating Ariel Esteban Bracamonte and now sits with a 6-0 (5) record.
With a fight against Wardley out the window Clarke now turns to June 10 where he will face Harry Armstrong at York Hall where Adam Azim headlines.
