Four features coming to WhatsApp soon – Times of India

WhatsApp keeps on introducing new features for better user experience. The messaging app recently rolled out the functionality to edit sent messages. WABetaInfo, has reported that WhatsApp is also working on some new features which are expected to roll out in coming weeks. Here are four features coming to WhatsApp soon.
Password reminder feature
According to WABetaInfo, the messaging app is introducing a new password reminder feature for Android and iOS users. This feature allows users to verify the correctness of their end-to-end encrypted backup password and replace it if there is a mismatch. By choosing a personal password or a 64-digit encryption key known only to them, users can secure their backups with end-to-end encryption. The report emphasizes that neither WhatsApp nor the backup service providers (Apple and Google) will have the ability to read encrypted backups or access the unlocking key.
Screen sharing during video calls
WhatsApp is introducing a new screen sharing feature that allows users to share their screen during video calls. Users will notice a new icon in the call control view, prompting them to initiate screen sharing. Once activated, the content displayed on their screen will be recorded and shared with the recipient.
The report emphasises that users will have complete control over this feature. They can halt the screen sharing process at any time, despite the ongoing transmission of their screen content during the video call. Furthermore, this feature is only enabled with the user’s explicit consent to share their screen content.
Unique usernames
WhatsApp is in the process of developing a username feature that will enable users to select distinctive usernames for their accounts. Although this feature is not currently visible as it is still being developed, the report mentions that WhatsApp will have a dedicated section for usernames in the Settings > Profile menu.
The introduction of usernames in WhatsApp will provide users with an added layer of privacy for their accounts. Instead of solely relying on phone numbers to identify contacts, users will have the option to choose a unique and memorable username. This feature may also allow users to connect with others by simply entering a username within the app, without requiring knowledge of their phone numbers.
Redesigned settings page
The Meta-owned platform is developing a new Settings interface for the Android version of the app. However, this feature is still in the development stage and has not yet been made available to beta testers.
The improved interface will introduce three new profile shortcuts: Profile, Privacy, and Contacts. With these shortcuts, WhatsApp users will no longer need to scroll extensively to access these options. Furthermore, WhatsApp intends to integrate shortcuts for starred messages and linked devices within the app settings.
