Former NXT UK Champion Toni Storm no longer with WWE

Just a few months after joining WWE’s main roster, Toni Storm is no longer employed by the company.

Fightful and PWInsider reported Wednesday that Storm has parted ways with WWE. Storm reportedly requested her release and was not one of the many wrestlers released this year because of supposed budget cuts.

On Christmas Eve, Storm unsuccessfully challenged Charlotte Flair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. That was one her final appearances with the company. She worked this past weekend’s live events in Orlando, Fla., and Washington, D.C., facing Flair and Sasha Banks in triple threat title matches.

Storm joined WWE in 2017, competing in the Mae Young Classic. While she lost in the semifinals, Storm went on to receive a WWE contract in 2018. At WWE Evolution, she beat Io Shirai to win the 2018 edition of the Mae Young Classic.

The 26-year-old then joined the NXT UK brand, becoming NXT UK Women’s Champion. In 2020, Storm was used on NXT programming and involved in various feuds leading up to Survivor Series. She joined the main roster in July and participated in matches against Flair and Zelina Vega.

Storm recently talked about her status on the main roster on Ryan Satin’s “Out of Character” podcast. She went into detail on how uncertain everything can be in pro wrestling.

“It’s the worst because you just don’t know,” Storm said (via SES Scoops). “Obviously, wrestling [can be] so unpredictable. Next week, you could be main eventing and winning a title and everything could be happening or nothing. You don’t know. This is show business at the end of the day. It’s a topsy-turvy industry.

“When you’re sat in catering, it’s not a good feeling. Just sitting there, waiting for your shot, waiting for your big break, waiting to show everyone what you’ve worked your life to be good at. I just sat there [asking], ‘When am I next? What’s happening?’ Now, [when] stuff starts happening, I’m still like, ‘What’s going on? Oh, my God. What is my life?'”

Before joining WWE, Storm wrestled all over the world. She is a former SWA and World of Stardom World Champion, winning the Cinderella Tournament in 2017. Storm is also a former Progress and IPW Australian Women’s Champion.

Famous on the independent scene for having lengthy title reigns, it is unknown where Storm will go next following her run with WWE.
