Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has bizarrely claimed everyone in England – including the media and pundits working for television channels – are fans of his old club’s arch-rivals Manchester United.

Aguero was watching a clip of his famous goal in City’s 3-2 win over QPR in 2012, which handed the club their first Premier League title at the expense of United, on his Twitch stream when he launched into a peculiar rant about the levels of support the Red Devils enjoy in the country.

‘People, you don’t know what it’s like in England,’ the Argentine said.

‘In England, everybody, all the journalists, all the TV channels, everybody, they’re all Manchester United supporters. Everybody!’

United are well represented in the punditry stakes on TV coverage of football in England as a host of their former stars have made the move into the media after finishing their playing careers.

Gary Neville is one of the top analysts at Sky Sports, while the BT Sport studio often includes at least one ex-Red – mainly Rio Ferdinand – when Premier League games are shown on the channel.

Roy Keane, Paul Scholes and Owen Hargreaves are also regulars in the studio.

Micah Richards, an old team-mate of Aguero, is one of the only former City players working in the media, although Arsenal legend Lee Dixon – a commentator on ITV who has also worked as a pundit – is a City fan.

Aguero, who was forced to retire from football at the age of 33 in December due to a heart condition, is fourth on the list of all-time Premier League goalscorers.

He scored 184 goals in 275 appearances for City and won five league titles at the Etihad before leaving to join Barcelona last summer.

Aguero only played four times for Barca, with his last appearance coming against Alaves in October, when he was forced off after complaining of chest pains and dizziness.
