Soon Le-Tan and Avillez had the Kitsuné fox and a lady friend frolicking with black-and-white cookies, fire hydrants, and other emblematic motifs in favorite spots all over the city, from the Empire State Building to the Met, a rowboat in Central Park and “fox dog” stands. Get it? Little foxes crop up on an exclusive customized Liberty print, and their footprints scamper playfully across collars, linings, and men’s shirts in a collection that also spans easy-to-mix ruffled or color-blocked blouses, cardigans, pencil skirts and city dresses.
On a sweltering July day at a bohemian-style house on Staten Island, photographer Peter Schlesinger and videographer Christopher Davis shot these images, starring the models Guinevere Van Seenus, Tatiana Williams, Yuu Henry, and Joel Wolfe, emphasizing the collection’s gender fluidity. Van Seenus appears on a diving board sporting Le-Tan’s favorite pink trench, evoking David Hockney’s Portrait of an Artist, for which Schlesinger was the muse. “I always love having connections in everything, especially when it just happens naturally, not on purpose,” said Le-Tan who, having gotten into baking and cake decorating during lockdown, even whipped up that Maison Kitsuné carrot cake.
The Maison Kitsuné “Fox Day Afternoon” capsule designed by Olympia Le-Tan will launch on maisonkitsune.com and in Kitsuné stores and selected retailers on February 17.
