Following Pathaan’s massive success, director Siddharth Anand claims that the boycott team’s plan failed – Times of India
At the worldwide box office, ‘Pathaan’ has managed to earn Rs 711 crore. Speaking about the film’s success, Siddharth Anand had said in a statement, “Scripting history. Everyone wants it, but one can’t plan it. It just happens. And when it does, it’s actually a very humbling experience. I’m feeling incredibly overwhelmed right now and inspired to get back on the film set and try and create something really special for audiences again. That’s my state of mind.”
Pathaan initially generated a lot of controversy, especially for the song Besharam Rang, which was accused of hurting certain sentiments and being too offensive for people. There was an agenda promoted on social media which openly called for a boycott of the film. Protests were held across the country and certain groups threatened to block cinema halls from screening the movie as well as exact retribution on those watching it.
Talking to ANI, Siddharth said, “I knew there was nothing offensive in the movie but the audience didn’t, because they hadn’t seen the movie at that time. Later, they watched the movie & made it a big success. Agendas of the boycott team failed.”
However, all’s well that ends well and Pathaan has been loved by audiences all over India and the world as indicated by the box office figures. The film is SRK’s comeback film after a hiatus of four years, and brought together a veteran cast of Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, Salman Khan and Dimple Kapadia along with an experienced crew of Aditya Chopra, Abbas Tyrewala and Shridhar Raghavan.
