The film is set in the early 1990s in a small hamlet in Kerala. It’s early morning and one can see Menon (Kuthiravattam Pappu) crossing the paddy field. He is in a hurry, to meet (catch) Gopi, who has borrowed some money from him and has not returned. The filmmaker soon introduces Gopinathan’s house. He lives with his family including his mother Janaki (Kaviyoor Ponnamma), two sisters, brother Hari (Sudeesh), grandma, and uncle Panattu Sankaran Nair (Oduvil Unnikrishnan). Menon arrives at Gopi’s (Jagadish) home and creates a ruckus. Following Menon, Janaki’s elder brother Panattu Govindan Nair (MS Thripunithura) arrives, as Gopi owes him Rs. 75000. Gopi is the only breadwinner of the family, and he has loaned all the money for various purposes of his family. Meanwhile, Gopi is also in love with Panattu Govindan Nair’s daughter, a school teacher.
After all the hide and seek, Gopi rushes to work, and on his way, meets an astrologer, who predicts that he will leave his current job, and will lead a lavish life, also suggest he take a lottery ticket. In the following days, Gopi starts taking lottery tickets, however, doesn’t find his luck. After not finding luck, Gopi tries to get back to his normal life, and tries to convince a bank manager to lend him a loan of Rs. 50,000, which could help him in settling some immediate debts. He bribes the manager with alcohol, and on their way back home, the manager falls ill, and so Gopi parks the bike. That was a night to remember for Gopi, as when the manager falls unconscious, a car passes by, which is being chased by a police jeep. And someone from the car throws away a suitcase, which Gopi finds, and takes it home. He secures it in a hole dug in the backyard of his home. It is later revealed that the suitcase belongs to Mathachen (Rajan P Dev), a smuggler. Later that night, Gopi, finds out that the suitcase was full of gold biscuits, worth a whopping amount.
The following day, Gopi becomes confident and happy, which is very unlikely and takes a gold biscuit to sell. On his way, meets his fiancée, and tells her that he is going to marry her in an extravagant way, resigns from his job, however, his efforts to sell the gold biscuit fail, since he is an amateur.
From not marrying off his sister to the man she loves, because the prospective groom is unemployed, to telling his mom that he is planning to open a new textile shop in the city, Gopi’s sudden boost of confidence, and new persona confuses the people around him. People frame him as a lunatic, and eventually, his unusual behaviour forces his family to admit him to a mental hospital. Want to know what happens next? Well, you will have to watch the movie!
