NEW DELHI: Industry bodies — CII and Ficci — have suggested a graded highly-localised plan for Covid-impacted areas instead of state-wide strategy, which is linked to bed occupancy in hospitals as against the current system of restrictions kicking in when the case count goes up.
For instance, CII has suggested a plan to allow only half of the fully vaccinated employees in government and private offices in case hospital occupancy levels are up to 75%. If more beds are occupied, the number of vaccinated employees permitted to come to offices should be slashed to 30%, it proposed. Similarly, Ficci has proposed a four-tier graded action plan, under which educational institutions are closed only if infections enter the high-risk zone where 60% hospital beds are occupied and the current active cases are over 250% of the second wave peak. “We have recommend not having any distinction between essential and non-essential activities, and also an overarching criteria of no hindrance to industrial activity if 75% of a unit’s workforce is fully vaccinated,” wrote Ficci president Sanjiv Mehta to commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal.
