- Involved a footy fan and Cameron Smith in the toilet
- Was at Suncorp Stadium where Broncos beat Cowboys
NRL funnyman Paul ‘Fatty’ Vautin was at his vintage best on Friday night, detailing on live television a bizarre interaction between an overzealous footy fan and Melbourne Storm great Cameron Smith in the toilets at Suncorp Stadium.
Vautin, 63, is renowned for his quick wit – and he left his panel colleagues from Channel Nine in stitches while recalling the tale.
Speaking at the conclusion of the round two clash between the Broncos and Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium, Vautin didn’t hold back, much to everyone’s amusement.
‘We were in the brasco [toilet] before and Cameron was having a whizzer [urinating],’ he said.
‘A bloke then tapped Cameron on the shoulder and said ‘can I have a photo?

‘It wasn’t the right time.’
Vautin, who is never afraid of being politically incorrect, then said, ‘I think he [Smith] was worried about a bit of shrinkage,’ leaving the panel – also featuring commentator James Bracey and footy legend Brad Fittler – in fits of laughter.
It isn’t the first time Vautin has gone rogue with the cameras rolling.
In 2019, the premiership-winning Sea Eagles captain stitched up fellow commentator Andrew ‘Joey’ Johns after an escort penalty was awarded on-field during a match between the Dragons and Storm.
‘Joey, explain to us what an escort is,’ Vautin stated, tongue in cheek.
After several seconds of laughter from the commentary team, Johns eventually managed to compose himself.
‘A technical problem here with my microphone, something’s wrong with my microphone,’ he said, as the laughs – also involving Johnathan Thurston – continued in the background.
Vautin was a popular host of Nine’s The Footy Show from 1994 until he Erin Molan took over in 2018.
