Fastest Time To Eat Carolina Reaper Chilli: US Man Sets Guinness World Record
The chilli-eating contest is a popular Internet fad. It can leave you either red in the face or win over a massive number of followers. Whatever the risk-reward ratio, eating chillies is not everyone’s cup of tea, especially if you have to eat the Carolina Reaper – the world’s hottest chilli. But Gregory Foster, a resident of the US, is a pro at this contest. He has set up a Guinness World Record for the fastest time to eat three Carolina Reaper chillies. Foster ate the three chillies in just 8.72 seconds in San Diego, California.
The Guinness World Records has shared a video of his attempt on Instagram. And, it is sure to earn Foster great respect and a large number of admirers. “Fastest time to eat three Carolina Reaper chillies — 8.72 seconds by Greg Foster (US),” the caption read. Many passers-by stopped to watch the attempt.
The video shows Forster eating the chillies one after the other with utmost ease. And, once done, Forster, who looks calm, opens his tongue wide to prove he ate all. Please note that this was Forster’s second attempt of the day. Yes, you read that right. Forster, in the first attempt, got disqualified after pepper matter was left in his mouth.
Forster, who made a second attempt immediately, ended up eating six Carolina Reaper chillies in quick succession. In his second attempt, he was successful in beating Canada’s Mike Jack, who had held the record of 9.72 seconds. Foster said he was “already feeling the effects of the first round of peppers consumed” when he began the second attempt, according to the global record keeper.
However, Foster didn’t seem to break a sweat after eating all the six peppers, which collectively amounted to 9.84 Scoville Heat Units (SHU).

The chilli fan attempted the record as a personal challenge. “In practising for an attempt like this it is more about mechanics and muscle memory, so I time myself eating small sweet peppers to get the chewing and swallowing down to automatic responses,” he added.
Foster also holds the record for the most Carolina Reaper chillies eaten in one minute – 120gm.
