Farheen on her comeback: Things have changed now, you’re not hired because the director or actor is your friend or relative- Exclusive – Times of India
Farheen reveals, “I am shooting for Rate directed by Harish Kotian for Amazon Prime Video. I am also shooting for director Shivam Nair’s next. I don’t know which one will be released first.” She acknowledges that she is feeling “amazing” facing the camera after so many years. She adds, “Technically, everything has changed. I was surprised by quite a lot of things. Back in our time, we didn’t have the digital world. Today, performing in front of the camera remains the same. In earlier times, the dialogue and performances were filmy. Things are not that filmy anymore. It is much more real.”
She feels the best part of contemporary filmmaking is the fact that nowadays the script is given to actors well before the shoot begins. Farheen explains, “It allows more time for preparation. The roles that I am playing now are more challenging. I am playing the wife of Kumud Mishra ji in one project and I am playing a social activist pitted against gangsters in the other project.” Farheen is loving the new, more professional environment in films. She says, “We are being offered roles by casting directors. You are not doing a project only because the director, actor, or producer is your friend or relative. It’s really nice to see this because when other actors claim that there’s nepotism, I don’t see it anywhere. It’s purely work and talent.”
The planning and organization of modern producers has impressed her a lot. She says, “Your travel ticket and hotel booking are taken care of. It used to happen earlier too, but now, everything is pre-planned. Today, if you look at movies or series, there are no heroes or heroines. Everyone is playing a character and is treated equally.”
While she may be coming back after a long hiatus, her peers are mindful of her past experience. She says, “Because we have previous experience everyone is respectful towards us, which I really appreciate. My husband and family are happy that I am acting again. My children are grown up now. My elder one is 24. He is also doing a project for Lionsgate. My younger one is doing a course abroad. It’s good to be busy at this age.”
What she’s most kicked about in the second innings of her acting career is the plethora of opportunities. Farheen explains, “It feels nice to be working especially when good proposals come to you. Now I have a choice to pick from the proposals that I get and I am looking forward to doing more work.”
