Pereira and Adesanya went head-to-head at UFC 281 at Madison Square Garden on Saturday evening. Adesanya was looking to make his sixth title defence.
However, Pereira won the UFC middleweight title in just his fourth fight with the promotion and stopped Adesanya for a second time after previously defeating him in a kickboxing match.

Fans took to social media to discuss the fight. Some criticised the early stoppage, while others felt it was the right decision.
One person wrote: ‘Early stoppage? LOL. There was over two minutes left in the round. Adesanya would have been KO’d flat on his back if it wasn’t stopped.’
Another added: ‘All these dumb excuses. Adesanya lost! Period! Do you want him to be murdered by not having it stopped? Will that help you guys accept Adesanya losing?’.
