Fans rage over ‘utterly INSANE’ ticket prices for Man United’s friendly with Wrexham in San Diego… with resale seats costing £283 – and Erik ten Hag won’t even be bringing the first team!

  • Manchester United play Wrexham in a preseason friendly in San Diego on July 25
  • Fans though are furious with the prices on Ticketmaster to watch the game
  • United’s main first team stars won’t be featured in the match against Wrexham

Fans are raging on social media after ticket prices emerged for Manchester United’s friendly with Wrexham in San Diego this summer.

It was announced earlier this week that the Red Devils will play the National League side – owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney – at the Snapdragon Stadium on July 25.

Tickets have gone on sale on Ticketmaster to see the match at the 35,000-seat venue – which is home to National Women’s Soccer League team the San Diego Wave.

The Red Dragons’ remarkable Hollywood story, following the Disney Plus series ‘Welcome to Wrexham,’ adds intrigue to the clash.

But fans have slammed the ‘utterly insane’ ticket prices to go and see the match – which won’t even feature United’s main stars – with resale tickets costing £283.

George Biagi suggested that their money would be better spent saving to fly to Wales and see them at the Racecourse Ground.

He said: ‘The ticket prices are f***ing obnoxious. I’m so bummed. Cheapest seat right now is $125 in the upper deck, most expensive is $700.

‘I’d rather save my money and fly to Wales next year and see Wrexham at the Racecourse after they get promoted.’

Oli Winton said it was ‘utterly insane’ to see what they believe will be a United youth and reserve side playing in San Diego against Wrexham.

Winton reported prices behind the goals at $250 and back of the upper tier at $180.

Another fan described the prices as ‘scandalous,’ while a USA Wrexham fan account wrote: ‘The scalpers are out in force… that’s what happens when you partner with Ticketmaster on ANYTHING.’

@WrexhamTexans commented: ‘This is insane! We were planning on a @WrexhamTexans visit but these ticket prices are actually more than the flights from Dallas/Fort Worth!!

‘Might come for the experience but won’t be going the game to pay almost a grand for the family to watch a friendly.’

Another supporter wrote: ‘As a life long supporter, four of us are planning on visiting the US but we will not be attending any Reds game at those prices WTF.’

Mike Fitzpatrick tweeted: ‘I looked at ticket prices and they are RIDICULOUS. I live about 45 minutes from the stadium, and for decent seats for a family of six, it was nearly $2,000 for this preseason friendly.’

Gareth Williams added: ‘Unreal isn’t it! $780 (£635) for four of us (two adults and two children) just can’t justify the cost. That’s more than my three season tickets.’

Man Utd football director John Murtough said that the friendly was a chance for Ten Hag to assess the club’s homegrown talent.

After confirmation of the match, he said ‘Manchester United has a history of nurturing and promoting youth and this is a chance for not only Erik but also our US supporters to assess the homegrown talent that is developing within our Academy, and hopefully to be able to say, ‘I saw him here first,’ if some of those players go on to establish themselves as first team regulars.’

Wrexham though are relishing the prospect of facing Manchester United in San Diego.

Manager, Phil Parkionson said: ‘We’re looking forward to being able to play in the United States for the first time in the Club’s history.

‘The match against Manchester United is sure to be a memorable occasion at the Snapdragon Stadium, San Diego.

‘The tour will be an excellent opportunity for us to prepare for the 2023/24 season, and the match against Manchester United will be a competitive fixture and a good test for us as we look ahead to the new campaign.

‘We enjoy welcoming supporters from the US to the Racecourse Ground, and we’re looking forward to being able to play in front of some of these new fans on American soil in the summer.’
