Expert explains what is UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, how to make that bond – Times of India

In this month of love when Valentine’s week and Valentine’s day are amongst the most awaited festivals for lovers, how can we not talk about the term “unconditional love” that Romeo and Juliet had for each other? The word ‘love’ refers to a particular set of behaviour and emotions including commitment, trust, affection, care, passion, intimacy, closeness, protectiveness and attraction. It can also be termed as a divine feeling that one experiences in his/her life. It is often seen that the intensity with which we ‘Love’ someone might change over the period of time or with the situations. But it would not be wrong to associate the word ‘Love’ with a plethora of positive emotions like euphoria, happiness, contentment, gratification et al. Nevertheless, sometimes ‘Love’ might also give rise to certain negative emotions like stress, anxiety, jealousy et al.

‘Unconditional love’ refers to loving someone without any terms and conditions. This is the purest form of love where we accept all the flaws of the person happily and love them for who they are without expecting something in return or wanting them to change themselves as per our whims and fancies. This kind of love knows no limits and boundaries. It is complete love without any expectations. Thus, ‘Unconditional Love’ is loving someone wholeheartedly and freely without any strings attached.

The best example of ‘unconditional love’ is the love of a mother for her child. She loves her child unconditionally, always takes care of the latter’s needs, stands by him)her through thick and thin, makes numerous sacrifices for him/her throughout her lifetime and never expects or demands anything in return. Also, she never voices out whatever she has done for her child, she silently does everything for her child and prays for his/her well being as she loves him/her unconditionally!

In today’s world, this kind of love (‘Unconditional Love’) might sound unrealistic or just be found in movies or fairy tales as it is a selfless act but there are some people who experience ‘Unconditional Love’ or ‘love someone unconditionally’. It is the key to a long term successful relationship including parent-child relation, siblings’ relationship, relationship between friends etc.
