EXCLUSIVE: WWE star Austin Theory praises Jey Uso for ‘always being friendly’ as current US champion made his way up the ranks before vowing to beat Roman Reigns
- Theory praised Uso for ‘always being friendly’ to him during the early days
- The current US champion explained how he ‘has that connection’ with the star
- He also vowed to defeat Reigns despite the two superstars never facing off
WWE star Austin Theory has revealed who has had the biggest impact on his career.
The 25-year-old – who is the current United States champion – said Jey Uso had helped his career from the very beginning, even before Theory had reached the main roster.
Speaking exclusively to Mail Sport’s Del Tevfik, the WWE superstar claimed Uso would ‘always be friendly’ as he made his way up the ranks, hailing the record-setting tag-team champion for aiding his early development with the company.
Theory, who was celebrating the opening of Virgin Media Gamepad – a brand new, free-to-use space for gamers to play without limits at The O2 in London, also praised Uso for helping him to understand the finer details on what it takes to be a successful WWE superstar.
‘It’s all those little things that you don’t think about but as soon as you do it and add a little bit more you realise “oh wow”, and you get that connection’, he explained.

Theory continued to vow to beat Roman Reigns, despite the two never facing off previously
Uso is coming off the back of a historical premium live event at the O2 Arena, bringing an end to his cousin Roman Reigns’ 1,294 day-streak of not being pinned.
Alongside his real-life twin and tag-team partner Jimmy, they defeated their cousin Reigns and younger brother Solo Sikoa, for Reigns’ first pinfall loss since 2019 to Baron Corbin.
This has now led to fans suggesting that Uso should be the one to dethrone the tribal chief Reigns, bringing an end to his 1,000+ days reign as Universal Champion.
This could come to fruition sooner rather than later, as Uso is set to face Reigns in a ‘tribal combat’ match for the Universal Championship. The match is set to take place on August 5, at WWE’s premium live event, Summerslam.
It is not just the fans who are rooting for the former unified tag-team champion, as the men who defeated Uso and his brother Jimmy for the tag-team titles at Wrestlemania, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn insisted either one of the brothers would be the ‘most fitting’ in an interview with Mail Sport’s Alex McCarthy.
When Theory was asked when he would be making the leap from United States champion into the World Championship picture, he suggested that he would fancy his luck at the World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins.
‘I’ve already beaten him twice’, Theory boasted, he also vowed to defeat Roman Reigns, despite the two superstars never facing off previously.
The United States champion will be hoping his next pursuit of a world title will go much better than his previous attempts, with Brock Lesnar and even WBC World Heavyweight Champion, Tyson Fury, stopping Theory from cashing in.
