Exclusive! Homi Adajania was scared while making ‘Cocktail’ – here’s why | Hindi Movie News – Times of India
In an exclusive chat with ETimes, Homi was asked if he’s fearless and he had a very interesting take on that. “I’m fearless as a filmmaker because Dinesh Vijan is putting in the money (laughs). Somewhere there are ten voices in my head and whoever speaks the loudest, I take that story up. If you tell me, let’s do something after three years, I won’t commit to it because I don’t know what’s my state of mind that time. So, I like to do something very soon just as I have the idea. I have chosen films for the wrong reasons and that you’re misinterpreting as fearless I think,” he says.
The director further revealed his reasons for doing some of his movies. He added, “I did ‘Being Cyrus’ because I wanted to know how a film is made. I love telling stories and I wanted to see if I’m able to do it with a film. Filmmaking is not rocket science, it’s just how well you communicate. Once you can actually see your entire story and how it will play out. You need technicians to make it a reality. So, I made ‘Being Cyrus’ to see how I can tell a story on celluloid.”
‘Cocktail’, though, remains close to his heart because he related to Veronica’s character. “I did Cocktail because I wanted to know what the whole song and dance thing was. I was scared while doing ‘Cocktail’ because I didn’t know how to do it. Despite it being someone else’s story, I did it because Dinesh Vijan knew I would give it my own flip. Also, I loved Veronica’s character, it reminded me of myself when I was in college,” says Homi.
Interestingly, all the characters in his movies have been very well-etched. Moreover, the actors have gotten largely appreciated in the films he’s made. For instance, Veronica is considered one of Deepika’s best characters. Homi throws light on it and explains, “I like to tell stories about the complexities of human minds. Human beings are the most bizarre of all the animal species. In that sense, I find it intriguing to see. My approach is that and it’s great fun for actors to sink their teeth into such characters because it’s an open field to play with. So, they’re usually character driven.”
Homi’s latest work, ‘Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo’ has begun streaming today and it stars Dimple Kapadia, Isha Talwar, Radhika Madan, Angira Dhar among others.
