Exclusive! Ajay Purkar on portraying Baji Prabhu Deshpande in ‘Pawankhind’: It’s a dream role – Times of India

Etimes got in touch with the star as he is making headlines for his iconic role of Baji Prabhu Deshpande in Digpal Lanjekar’s ‘Pawankhind’.

Ajay Purkar exclusively spoke to ETimes and shared how it was working on ‘Pawankhind’ and what challenges he went through to portray the iconic role of Baji Prabhu Deshpande. He shared “It’s a dream role for me. When you get a chance to portray someone whom you always admired, you do whatever it takes. I was very surprised when Digpal Lanjekar approached me for ‘Baji Prabhu Deshpande’. He said to me that you wanted this right, then do it”

Asked about his preparations for the character and the actor shared, said “To portray any larger than life character, you need to work on your physique. Baji Prabhu’s physique was very huge and we had a very limited time. So, I did an intense workout and gained almost 14kgs for this role. We have tried our level best to reach another level Maratha war which we never did any of our historical films”

‘Pawankhind’ will showcase the valour of Baji Prabhu Deshpande in the battle of ‘Pawankhind’ in which 600 Maratha soldiers took on 10,000 Bijapuri soldiers led by Siddi Jauhar.

It also stars Chinmay Mandlekar, Mrinal Kulkarni, Ruchi Mohan, Prajakta Mali, Ankit Mohan, Surabhi Bhave and kshitee jog in pivotal roles.
