A former Manchester United prospect has revealed that he was forced to pretend to have sex with an imaginary woman in front of some of the club’s treble winning heroes as part of his initiation.

Daniel Nardiello, joined United from Wolves in 1999, and went on to make his debut for the club in a League Cup defeat to Arsenal two years later – aged 19.

He spent most of his time at the club out on loan before leaving permanently in 2005 after completing a move to Barnsley.

These days footballers usually have to do karaoke whenever they join a new club.

However, Nardiello has revealed a much more ‘horrible’ experience in which he claims he had to simulate sex with a woman on the table, in front of the club’s iconic heroes including David Beckham, Roy Keane and Ryan Giggs.

Speaking on the Under the Cosh podcast, Nardiello when asked about his United initiation, said: ‘Mine was I had to make love to a [pretend] woman on the table.

‘A few of us had to do that. You had to describe the girl. It was horrible.

‘”Is she blonde, brunette, is she busty, is she not? ‘How are you doing it? What are you saying to her?” [I was] bright red, it was horrible.’

When he was asked if it was ‘strictly missionary’ the 40-year-old responded ‘100 per cent.’

Nardiello, who also played for clubs including QPR, Swansea, and Blackpool during his career, said he was shocked by the response of United’s first-team players.

He added: ‘These are the superstars as well.

‘It was [Ryan] Giggs and David May the main guys in there but you can see Keane and Beckham there just lapping it all in and you’re like, “oh my God, I’ve got to make love to a girl in front of all these guys”.’

Other team-mates were more fortunate in that their initiation didn’t have them simulate sex on a table.

Nardiello only played a handful of games for United's senior squad during a career in which he played for 13 teams including Barnsley (pictured in the 2006 League One play-off final)

The former Wales international said one team-mate had to play the ‘spoon game’ with ex-United defender David May.

The game would see May and the unnamed youngster put spoons in their mouths and try to hit each other as hard as they could.

However, when it was May’s go, Giggs would sneakily hit the youngster on the head.

Nardiello would likely have gone through a number of initiations during his career – given that he played for 13 different teams before his career ended at Bangor City in 2017.

Arguably his career highlight came for Barnsley in 2006, where he scored an equaliser during the League One play-off final, which forced the game to penalties where they beat his former side Swansea 4-3.

He also made three international appearances for Wales between 2007 and 2008.
