Ex-Apple India regulatory affairs head Reddy to drive Microsoft’s metaverse biz

Kolkata: Former Apple India regulatory affairs head Sreenivasa Reddy has joined Microsoft India as engineering head of the software major’s mixed reality business for the India, Middle East and Africa markets, two people aware of the matter said.

“Reddy will be driving Microsoft’s new businesses around Metaverse engineering, R&D and manufacturing, including business support for these markets,” one of the persons cited told ET.

Going forward, Reddy is likely to be closely involved in setting up a dedicated software R&D centre in India for Microsoft’s emerging metaverse business.

Microsoft did not reply to ET’s queries.

Metaverse is a new-age business in a virtual world, powered by virtual reality, augmented reality and blockchain technologies where people can play, work and shop across different platforms using digital tools. The gaming ecosystem in particular is set to gain from metaverse push.

Microsoft’s metaverse push stems from the fact that it provides the operating system to over 70% of computer users worldwide and is also a major player in the global video games market.
