Everything You Need to Know About ‘Yellowjackets’ Season 2
When Yellowjackets premiered on Showtime last November, it became that rarest of things in the streaming age: a slow-burn, word-of-mouth hit. With its distinctive blend of genres (part survival horror, part suburban thriller, part coming-of-age story) and stellar cast of teen idols delivering career-best performances (Christina Ricci, Melanie Lynskey, and Juliette Lewis among them), the show quickly became one of the year’s buzziest breakouts—no pun intended—earning rave reviews and picking up seven Emmy nominations.
So it came as particularly exciting news to hear that, even before the first season had ended, its creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson had been commissioned to start working on a second season already. While they work, get all of your questions about the forthcoming season of Yellowjackets answered right here.
Will there be a Yellowjackets Season 2?
Absolutely. After the show debuted to effusive reviews last fall—and quickly began gathering steam on Twitter and Reddit as fans shared their wildest theories—Showtime realized they had a hit on their hands and quickly ordered a second season. Thankfully, when Lyle and Nickerson first pitched the show, they came to the table with a five-season arc for its characters, meaning that you can expect the second season to be just as fleshed-out and meticulously plotted as the first.
“Yellowjackets has been an unadulterated sensation for Showtime,” said Gary Levine, Showtime’s entertainment president, to The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “Clearly there is a hunger for originality and audacity, and our incredible showrunners Ashley, Bart, and Jonathan, along with their pitch-perfect cast, have delivered that and so much more. I can’t wait to see the surprises they have in store for us in season two.” Gary, neither can we.
