Every top BJP Neta to spend 2 days in allotted seat in Telangana

New Delhi: Each BJP national executive committee member, including ministers, will spend two days prior to the conclave next week in Hyderabad in an allocated assembly constituency in Telangana.

BJP plans to reach out to the electorate and gauge the party’s status in the seat. This is among the party’s first steps to make inroads at the grassroots level in the southern state where it is hopeful of wresting power from TRS in 2023.

BJP is set to harness its three-day national executive congregation at Hyderabad beginning July 1 to initiate the campaign for the assembly elections due in Telangana in December 2023. One member will be present in each of the 119 assembly seats in the state from June 29 to July 1.

“The executive committee member will reach the assembly seat allotted to him/her on June 29 and hold meetings with mandala-level office-bearers, followed by in-charge of booth shakti kendra heads. They will discuss the programmes, membership drive and following of the party in the seat. The impact of welfare schemes, the anti or pro-incumbency against TRS, and other aspects will also be looked into,” a senior BJP leader said.

The local units have also been directed to make a list of community leaders, opinion- makers and intellectuals in their areas. “The national executive member will visit their homes to inform them about the work being done by the Centre as well as the BJP state unit and gather feedback,” another BJP office-bearer said.

The community leaders have a sway over a chunk of votes and BJP intends to win them over.

The conclave will begin on July 1 with a roadshow by party president JP Nadda. He will also inaugurate an exhibition at the venue of the conclave. A meeting of the BJP national general secretaries will be held on the first day.

On July 2, national office-bearers will hold a meeting before the national executive kicks off in the afternoon. The conclave will continue till July 3 and culminate in a rally at the Parade Ground which will be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

BJP central and state leadership have been quite active in the state for the past few months, leading to a rift with TRS which now sees the saffron party as its main political rival.
