Lampard is eager to agree terms with Colwill’s parent club and his former side, Chelsea, over a loan deal for the 2022-2023 campaign.

However, Chelsea may need Colwill back at the club next season following the potential exodus of players this summer.

But, should Colwill become available, Lampard is ready to snap him up. The Everton boss is keen to give the youngster his first real taste of Premier League football after the Toffees avoided relegation with a victory over Crystal Palace.

Colwill has enjoyed a successful season at Huddersfield and was dubbed as the ‘new John Terry’ due to his performances.

Colwill revealed last month that he was delighted to be compared to the Chelsea legend and said that everyone should ‘look up to him’ as he is a ‘great guy and player’.

The 19-year-old said: ‘I’ll take it, I’m not going to complain. It’s not a bad thing to be called the new John Terry.

‘I haven’t made the comparison myself so the fans and media can make whatever comparisons they want to make, it isn’t going to affect me.

‘John Terry is a club legend and leader, someone every centre-back at Chelsea should look up to. A great guy and player.

‘I’ve not had the chance to speak to him too much.

‘When he was around the academy building we’d have the odd little chat but it’d be more of a, ‘Hi, how are you?’, kind of thing, not on a personal level about football or things like that.’
