Etsy names Pankaj Jathar as VP and India head
Jathar will be in charge of expanding Etsy’s marketplace capabilities and identifying new growth prospects. According to a company statement, he will concentrate on organising and developing the Indian creative community and linking vendors to millions of buyers via the Etsy marketplace.
“I have long been impressed by Etsy’s ability to
entrepreneurs. They’ve created economic opportunities for millions of people around the world, and I am thrilled to be able to contribute to this and support Indian creators in harnessing their full potential,” Jathar said.
With more than two decades of experience in international information technology-enabled services (ITES) and e-commerce companies, Jathar is a seasoned professional.
When Amazon and private equity firm Catamaran collaborated on Prione, Jathar served as its CEO. From 2011 to 2017, he oversaw a number of departments at Amazon and played a crucial role in the launch of the company’s India business.
Prior to joining Amazon, he spent more than five years building outsourcing solutions for financial institutions.

Etsy has been making investments in India – one of the company’s seven core markets – for a number of years. These investments are primarily directed toward developing a local inventory and establishing efficient business procedures to develop a two-sided peer-to-peer marketplace.
