After a three-year hiatus, the Dubai Marathon returned in style today -February 12; producing spectacular results as an Ethiopian family bags multiple medals.
Ethiopian Abdisa Tola won the professional men’s race with a worldleading time of 2:05:42, while his wife Dera Dida won the women’s race.
The 22nd edition of the Middle East’s oldest marathon, was held in a new location at Expo City Dubai, The Dubai Marathon featured three runs: the full 42.195 km marathon; the 10 km Road Race; and the 4 km Fun Run.
Marcel Hug from Switzerland won the wheelchair race in 1:23:50, and Eden Rainbow-Cooper of Great Britain won the women’s race in 1:47:15, in the same category.Noman El-Issawi of Morocco won the men’s 10 km race after crossing the finish line in 29 minutes. He was followed by fellow Moroccan Anwar El-Ghouz, who finished in second place with a time of 29:02 minutes
The winners were crowned in the presence of Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council; Naser Aman Al-Rahma, Assistant Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council; Salah Talak, Joint Chief Operating Officer at Dubai Duty Free; Ahmad Al Kamali, General Coordinator of the Dubai Marathon; and Peter Connerton, Manager of the Dubai Marathon. The race carried prize money worth more than $500,000.
