Erling Haaland becomes the youngest player to score 30 goals in Champions League HISTORY

Manchester City star-man Erling Haaland has made history once again, breaking Kylian Mbappe’s record to become the youngest player to score 30 goals in the history of the Premier League. 

Adding further weight to this jaw-dropping statistic is the fact that the Norwegian target-man reached 30 goals faster than any other player has. 

Haaland’s mammoth achievement took just 25 appearances. 

The record was broken as Haaland stepped up to take a penalty for the Manchester-based side in their second-leg round of 16 tie against RB Leipzig. 

The forward confidently slotted the ball past keeper Janis Blaswich with the smallest hint of run-up.

After scoring his second, a whip-cracking shot at pace a mere 78 seconds later, Haaland reached 36 goals in 36 appearances for his team, which he joined in the summer transfer window from Borussia Dortmund. 

Just before the half-time whistle, Haaland had his hattrick after stuffing the ball over the line following a frantic City corner. 

Less than ten minutes after the start of the second half, Haaland scored his fourth and drew level with City’s 94-year-old record number of goals per season, with his 38th in all competitions. 

He surpassed this number, set by Tommy Johnson in 1927/28, breaking the record less than three minutes later.  

Haaland has scored eight goals in City’s sky blue in this competition, with the larger share of his goals coming during his time at Dortmund. 

But the 22-year-old got his first taste for high-scoring in Europe during his time at Red Bull Salzburg, where he scored eight goals in 2019 before his mid-season move to the Bundesliga.

Haaland is 116 days younger than Paris Saint-Germain’s Mbappe was when he reached his 30th goal in the Champions League.

Now aged 24, the former World Cup winner has upped his total to 40 goals. 

But unlike the Nordic superstar, the French forward will not be able to add to his tally this year, after the Ligue 1 club was unceremoniously dumped out of the competition after losing their second leg time against Bayern Munich. 

When it comes to record breaking, Haaland has form in this competition. 

In the same vein, he is the fastest player to have reached 20 goals, and in the fewest appearances: just 14.
