Junior players from two AFL clubs in South Australia have been lauded after bravely lacing their match day boots in conditions best described as horrendous.
Woodville South Junior Football Club hosted Goodwood Saints Football Club in the under-15 boys last Sunday at Ledger Oval in Beverley – and plenty of the rising stars could have been forgiven for having the morning off.
In driving rain with howling winds in Adelaide’s west, the playing surface soon resembled a mud bath, as players from both teams battled the brutal elements.

Goodwood Saints club president Craig Scott said it was great to see the kids with smiles on their faces during and after the match
A video from the sideline has already generated over 5000 views online.
The determination to keep playing across the four quarters won the youngsters plenty of admirers on social media.
‘And who said 14-year-old guys can’t focus! Not these guys! Well done,’ one said.
Another stated ‘Yep, was same for the under-12s. The ground was waterlogged.’
A third summed up the thoughts of many by posting ‘Ahhh, the true essence of footy clubs…play regardless through wind, rain and mud. You gotta love local park footy.’
Goodwood Saints club president Craig Scott said it was great to see the kids with smiles on their faces during and after the match.
‘We are a footy club who always promote the importance of having a go, the result isn’t always important,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.
‘It was great to see two teams at grassroots level out having fun in very testing conditions.’
