England women are on the verge of qualifying for the semi-finals of the World Cup after hammering Pakistan by nine wickets in Christchurch.
Katherine Brunt took a wicket with the first ball of the match as Heather Knight’s defending champions bowled Pakistan out for just 105.
Experienced pace bowler Brunt and spinner Sophie Ecclestone – who became the tournament’s leading wicket-taker – took three wickets each as Pakistan were dismissed inside 42 overs.
England opener Danni Wyatt then hammered 76 from 68 balls as part of a 87-run partnership with Knight as England coasted to victory with just 19.2 overs gone.
Knight’s side – who lost their opening three round-robin matches – will now confirm their place in the last four if they beat Bangladesh on Saturday in Wellington.
