What’s been said?
Heading into the match, Borthwick revealed that there is a gap between England and the ‘top sides’ in the world.
‘The players need to have the time. I know there have been in the past a number of situations where players have been in and out,’ Borthwick said in the build-up to thw match.
‘What I need to do is make sure players build relationships with each other, and understand what Test rugby is about. What you are seeing is players who are experiencing a substantial Six Nations tournament for the first time, a large contingent. I think they are learning fast, we fell short last week, we need to learn faster.
‘We understand where the gap is between where we are and the top sides in the world. Against the second best team in the world last week we fell a long way short. Our challenge this week has been to learn faster than we have ever had to learn. That is what we have to do. That is what we will do going forward.’
