Emergency vehicles have been called to Manchester United’s Carrington training ground following an accident outside the complex.

Several police cars, ambulances and fire engines arrived on scene in response to a car crashing into a ditch near to the Carrington entrance on Wednesday morning.

The car was seen on Sky Sports footage with both wheels on the left-hand side off the road, stuck and unable to move in the run-off from the tarmac, with several emergency responders around the car.

Thankfully, nobody is thought to have been hurt in the incident, despite the heavy emergency service presence outside Carrington.

Erik ten Hag was due to talk to the media at 12pm, with his side in action in the Europa League on Thursday against Sevilla, and Sky Sports reporters were in attendance at Carrington to give a live update as events unfolded.

‘I’ve got to show you the entrance to Carrington where we’ll be talking to Erik ten Hag this lunchtime,’ Sky’s Ben Ransom said.

‘The scene here is chaos, you will have noticed the fire engine over my shoulder here and that’s because if you swing around, a car has ended up in a ditch here.

‘We’ve got quite a substantial response, I think I’ve counted five police cars, an ambulance and four fire engines.

‘I think the call initially went into the police was that there was a car teetering on the edge of a cliff.

‘There are no cliffs here, that was the old training ground, this is Carrington so mercifully everyone is okay.’

Ten Hag’s press conference on Wednesday included gave fans an insight into the status of the squad ahead of their European clash with the competition’s record winners.

Both Alejandro Garnacho and Luke Shaw were ruled out of contention, while there were also several questions on the injury prognosis for star man Marcus Rashford, who hobbled off the field against Everton with a groin issue.

‘Few games,’ Ten Hag said in response to enquiries over the duration of time Rashford would be missing. ‘So that is the statement. I can’t give more details on it. We will have to see how it develops.

With the England star set for a spell on the sidelines, Anthony Martial is set to start for the Red Devils in attack, having made a goal scoring contribution at Old Trafford on Saturday.

‘He’s scored in big games and if you can do it in such games, you can do it in Premier League games,’ said the Red Devils boss of the French forward. ‘We have to win games together and that is my experience with him.

‘He’s a fighter and he likes a challenge. When he plays, the team is winning and he’s still a very young player, he can kill opponents.’
