Elon Musk Twitter News: Elon Musk’s Twitter Blue subscription service with verification blue tick is rolling out | – Times of India
What is the ‘new’ verification blue check mark
On a support page, Twitter says a handle with the blue check mark could mean two things: Either that handle got verified under previous verification criteria after undergoing a review process, or that the account has got an active subscription to the platform’s new Twitter Blue service.
Previously, those who got the checkmark had to undergo a verification process based on certain requirements. It was given to indicate active, notable, and authentic accounts of public interest.
Twitter says that the accounts that receive the blue checkmark after subscribing to the new Twitter Blue service “will not undergo review to confirm that they meet the active, notable and authentic criteria that was used in the previous process.”
Those who subscribe to Twitter Blue on iOS “on or after November 9, 2022” will get a blue check mark against their profile and will remain for the duration of the active subscription.
Which countries get the new Twitter Blue
The new Twitter Blue subscription service is made available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK as of now.
Earlier this month, Elon Musk suggested that the new Blue subscription might launch in India by November end.
What happens in case of impersonation
There are chances that a person can impersonate an account of a notable personality and subscribe to Twitter Blue to get the checkmark.
The company says that in order to minimise impersonation risks, display name changes will be temporarily restricted on Verified accounts. “This will impact accounts Verified under the legacy program and Twitter’s new Twitter Blue subscription product,” Twitter notes.
Twitter Blue: Loss of the checkmark
Twitter says that the blue checkmarks of subscribers’ profiles “may be taken away at any time for any reason at all by Twitter.”
“Legacy verified accounts also may be taken away at any time for any reason at all by Twitter, including as the result of certain types of violations of the Twitter Rules, including but not limited to our rules around spam, ban evasion, and Impersonation,” Twitter said.
