Elon Musk takes a ‘crass’ dig at Mark Zuckerberg – Times of India
Over the past week, the launch of Threads, a text-based app that competes with Twitter, has reignited the dispute between Zuckerberg and Musk.
Musk replied to a tweet having a screenshot of a conversation between fast food chain Wendy’s and Mark Zuckerberg on Threads. Wendy’s suggested that Zuckerberg should go to space to annoy Musk, and he responded with a laughing emoji, which seems to have not gone well with Elon.
In the reply, Musk wrote, “Zuck is a c**k,” proposing a “literal d**k measuring contest” in another tweet.
There were varying opinions among users regarding Musk’s tweet. Some found it offensive, while others mistook it for a parody account. But it was Elon, not the parody Elon.
Since Musk’s tweet, Zuckerberg has been relatively silent except for responding to a Threads user’s accusation that Twitter deliberately excluded the new app from its trending topics. The Meta CEO replied with the word “concerning” and a laughing emoji, probably mocking Musk.
On Wednesday, the day Threads launched, Zuckerberg took to Twitter, after more than a decade, to post a meme. Yes, he shared a meme of two Spidermen pointing at each other. People have interpreted this as a jibe on the similarities between the Threads and Twitter.
Zuckerberg responding to a question from MMA fighter Mike Davis on his new Threads account, said that he believes there should be a public conversations app with over one billion users.
Zuckerberg thinks Twitter’s unfriendly user experience has hindered its success. He plans to prioritise kindness on his own platform, recognizing that Twitter’s negligence in doing so is a reason for its failure.
In a conversation with MMA fighter Mike Davis on Threads, Zuckerberg said that he hopes Threads can become a public conversations app with over 1 billion users, surpassing Twitter’s attempt.
Musk, who purchased Twitter for $44 billion last year, has not been so happy with another microblogging platform. He has been publicly criticising the platform for its data privacy and censorship practices. He referred to Threads as “just Instagram minus pics.”
Twitter is also moving to court against Meta for violating intellectual property rights. Musk, in a tweet, said that competition is acceptable, but cheating is not, alleging that Zuckerberg’s company has copied Musk’s social media platform. A letter was sent to Zuckerberg by his lawyer Alex Spiro, accusing him of unlawfully misusing Twitter’s trade secrets, and poaching ex-Twitter talent, to which Meta said that no engineer in the Threads team is from Musk’s company.
While we are not sure of a cage match or a “d**k measuring” competition, the two will fight it out on the internet. While Threads has been amassing users every day, about having 100 million users in less than a week, Twitter has been losing traction.
