Eddie Jones turns to Wallabies stars as he gears up to lead Barbarians against star-studded World XI for his return to Twickenham after being sacked by England

Former England and now Australia head coach Eddie Jones has called on two of his big-name Wallabies to play for the Barbarians against a World XV at Twickenham on May 28. 

Maverick playmaker Quade Cooper and powerhouse centre Samu Kerevi will both pull on the famous black and white shirt a week on Sunday. 

Jones will return to the home of English rugby for the first time since being sacked as national head coach for a match will see him go head-to-head with two-time World Cup winner Steve Hansen. 

Former New Zealand head coach Hansen is in charge of the World XV. Both men have assembled all-star teams for the mouth-watering match with Cooper and Kerevi the latest additions for the Barbarians. 

The pair are likely to be key men for Australia under Jones in this summer’s shortened Rugby Championship and at the World Cup in France later this year.

Cooper and Kerevi are players Jones knows well. 

Indeed, Jones has worked closely with Kerevi at Japanese side Suntory Sungoliath where he has long held a consultancy role. 

Wales trio Alun Wyn Jones, Rhys Webb and Taulupe Faletau will also be in the Barbarians side alongside England prop Joe Marler and former All Black Steven Luatua. 

Israel Folau, Charles Piutau, Ngani Laumape, Nick Phipps, Marika Koroibete, Semi Radradra, Api Ratuniyarawa, Simone Ferrari, Lorenzo Cannone, Rhys Patchell, Adam Hastings, Elliot Dee, Bill Mata and Fraser Brown are all part of a glittering World XV side. 

The match is set to whet the appetite for rugby fans ahead of the World Cup later this year with a large number of superstars on show. 

‘It’s an incredible honour to be asked to coach the Barbarians for a second time,’ said Jones. 

‘The club showed during the autumn the values and traditions which make the Barbarians so special are still very much alive. 

‘Fans can expect to see two top-quality teams, packed full of international players, going all out to catch the eye ahead of the World Cup.
