Speaking after the game against Tottenham, Howe said: ‘In the future we might look back at this as a good thing for us.
‘It might just realign our thoughts and bring us back down to the basics that have got us success. Sometimes that jolt can be a good thing for you.
‘I still think we’re in a huge fight to stay in the division. I think we knew this period was going to be very difficult.

Howe thought his team did well to ‘control’ Tottenham’s key players in the first half of the game
Howe says that Matt Doherty’s was the turning point for Newcastle on Sunday afternoon
Howe said: ‘(We were) 1-0 up and executing a really good plan I felt, controlling Tottenham as best we could. I think we did the first part of the game really well.
‘I think probably the second goal was the key thing and the manner of it, and our perspective would be it was absolutely what we didn’t need to do at that moment in time.
‘I think (after that) we chased the game probably in a way you can’t against this type of team. We became expansive, we ended up taking risks and we didn’t execute that well enough.’
