ED searches on premises linked to Sanjay Raut

The Enforcement Directorate Sunday is carrying out searches at premises linked to senior Shiv Sena leader and MP Sanjay Raut in a money-laundering case, people in the know told ET.

Sources added that a team of around a dozen of officers reached Raut’s surburban residence around 7.30 am.

In the past Raut has been summoned by the agency twice in the past asking him to present himself before the agency’s Ballard Pier office in Mumbai.

Raut and his wife, Varsha, are being probed by the central agency in connection with its investigation into the money-laundering case against jailed promoters Rakesh and Sarang Wadhawan. The ED has allegedly tracked certain transactions linked to Raut’s wife.

According to the people ET spoke to, ED’s investigation had revealed that Rs 83 lakh had been received by Raut’s wife directly or indirectly in 2010 from the wife of Pravin Raut, who is one of the accused in the HDIL case. This amount was allegedly utilised by Raut for the purchase of a flat at Dadar in Mumbai. The amount, the ED claims, was part of proceeds of crime linked to irregularities in a slum redevelopment project undertaken by an HDIL subsidiary. The ED had also claimed that after it initiated the investigation, Raut transferred Rs 55 lakh to Pravin Raut’s wife.

The ED had attached the Dadar flat and 8 land parcels in Alibaug on the outskirts of Mumbai.
