Dua Lipa Has a New Favorite Jacket

Dua Lipa has gone through a red hot slew of outfits the past few weeks (perhaps spurred by her reported breakup with Anwar Hadid; everyone loves a revenge look). On January 6, she posed in an Eli Mizrahi dress with cut-outs from chest to hip, and in another photo from January 1, she smoldered in an itty-bitty rose print dress. But what has been catching my eye recently are her Balenciaga looks, specifically her Balenciaga moto jacket. Back on January 8th, she posted a photo of herself wearing the Balenciaga racer jacket with an oversize button-down and a skirt. Then last night, she stepped out on the town wearing a red t-shirt, a pleated mini skirt, large black boots, the brand’s La Cagole bag, and her tried-and-true jacket.

The black leather jacket is certainly a statement-maker as it has the house logo emblazoned on it. But in general, Lipa looks great in Demna’s designs. Last year when she performed live with Elton John at his AIDS Foundation Oscar party, she wore not one but two Balenciaga gowns: a glittering fringe iteration, and a body-skimming velvet number with a bell-shaped puffed hem. A fantastic, Old Hollywood vibe for the singer.

If Lipa is looking for a fresh start in her closet, Balenciaga might be the best place to begin. The label is a sartorial palette cleanser, and the most transformative of brands. Just look at Kim Kardashian, who late last year fell hard for the label’s gimp masks and catsuits. I don’t think Lipa is going to cover her face anytime soon, but I do like where she is heading with Balenciaga. It elevates her closet and signifies growth. Even if she doesn’t opt to go head-to-toe in ’Ciaga, that moto jacket is truly a gem.
