‘Drishyam 2’ races ahead with Rs 224 crore nett, gives tough competition to ‘Cirkus’ – Times of India

Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Drishyam 2’ is enjoying a glorious run at the box office and has emerged as one of the biggest money spinners at the box office. Interestingly, this thriller is giving some tough competition to Christmas release, ‘Cirkus’, which has crashed badly at the box office.

The film on its seventh Friday, added Rs 75 lakhs to its total. With this figure, ‘Drishyam 2’ has recorded a jump of 50% in collection from its last Friday. Currently, ‘Drishyam 2’ stands at a total collection of Rs 224 crore nett and with its upward trend, the film is expected to beat the total business of ‘Brahmastra’ Hindi, which was Rs 230 crore nett. ‘Drishyam 2’ is racing ahead of ‘Cirkus’ at several big multiplexes across the country.

Speaking about the film’s humongous success, Ajay had told ETimes, “The box office of a film is gratifying. I am happy that Drishyam 2 continues to surpass expectations at the ticket windows in India and overseas. Frankly I am happy as much for myself as the people who made this film— (Abhishek Pathak, director) Tabu, Akshaye Khanna, Rajat Kapoor, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav, Rockstar DSP (music director) and all the other co-actors and technicians; but I am also rejoicing for the film industry because we are going through a trying phase. We need films, (being altruistic), all films to collect money because we need to keep the film economy running. Post the pandemic, there have been sporadic hits. This is a worrying thing for us as an industry. After all, it is only the box office that can save the trade—be it us—actors, producers, directors, exhibitors, distributors, so on and so forth.”
